Sleep apnea is a growing problem even in children. It's linked not only to heart disease, but many other issues such as osteoporosis, liver disease, resistant weight loss, depression, eye diseases and more. Why sleep apnea should be part of a differential diagnosis in every person with a serious illness. Sleep is 1/3rd of our lives and if our brain is not getting adequate oxygen then many adverse downstream issues can occur. Many doctors are not aware of the link between sleep apnea and various diseases such as polycythemia, or osteoporosis, or depression. You often have to request a sleep study test yourself. Be well by making sure you sleep well, only testing can really tell. It is not just a snoring overweight person's disease anymore. It might even be why your child is irritable and not doing well in school. Be smart. Sleep smart.
